There seems to be differing opinions on how to safely hold your jig when shooting docks. Nobody wants a hook buried in their finger.

Some people recommend pinching the jig head with your thumb and index finger. Others recommend holding the jig by squeezing the bend of the hook.

I’ve also seen advertisements for commercial dock shooting tabs that you slip over the hook.

This is a crappie fishing technique that I’d like to learn. Safely!

Any advice will be very much appreciated.

Cut the point/barb off a jig and practice both ways and see which is the most comfortable way for you.

Then use a regular jig and proceed to drive the point into your finger. It will probably happen at some point so just get it over with.

You hold the head of the jig...no worries...the hook won't get you.

The bobby garland pull tabs are metallic and add a flash to entice fish as well. dual purpose. i just bought some but have not had the chance to try it out. i bought them for my two girls who are 7 and 9 so i have one less thing to worry about!

Hold the head pull her back let her fly. Practice makes wonders and I use the ACC crappie stick dock shooter as it’s just right in my opinion.

Hold the head. Hook point up and forward a bit. You shouldn't get stuck.

Thanks guys, I appreciate y’all sharing your techniques.

Shadboy, I think I’ll pass on your advice. Reminds me of my childhood when my Dad tied one end of a string to my loose tooth and the other end of the string to the doorknob. I’m too old now to qualify for visits from the tooth fairy. I did that to my little brother once and the string broke. They didn’t make Spiderwire back then.

Hopefully I can see you out out on the lake one day and you can demonstrate your method. I’d love to see it. 😊

I hold the head of the jig. Do most of yall who dock shoot regularly use braid or fluorocarbon?
