Question for a Mechanic. My mercury manual shows a "Water Tube Seal" in between my pump housing and the "Water Tube Guide"/white plastic tube. The kit did not come with this part and it did not have one with the old pump housing when I dissembled it. 2004/Merc 150 T794xxx - see pic - Question is... Is this one of those parts that some year models have and some do not? or do I need to get online and purchase this part? I guess I am confused that it was not part of the kit I purchased but I also suspect the previous owner lost it since I am also missing a bolt from under the trim plate as well.
Glad to have taken..."the trash in the back!"

Part does not come with the impeller change kit. Smart preventative maintenance action to just replace it at the same time as your doing the impeller.

agreed. I have it in my cart along with the missing bolt but it means I am off the water till it comes in. I was tempted to put a bead of Silcone around it and call it done knowing that it's been without this part for at least 2 years. -smh. could be the cause of my poor water flow. Thanks for the comment.

Thanks for the comment. A lot of times when you drop the lower unit down the water tube seal will stay attached to the tube up in the mid section of the motor. Did you look up in the mid section to see if that's what may have happened?

yea i looked there first expecting to see it attached to the bottom of that tube. I bet the previous owner didnt follow the manual and left it out.

Mine has never had "part b" separate since it was new. I don't think my "part a" would fit into the housing if it didn't have a "part b" in there though. There are always some extra grommets and o-rings with the kits I have ordered and I thought maybe one of those was for that area but it never had any of those either. I have always put it back together the way it came with no problems. My PSI was 16 after the last rebuild.
I have learned not to waste my time just replacing the impeller. Most of the time one of the gaskets under the lower base is blown and needs to be replaced, so might as well do it all while your in there. It is hard to figure out online which parts fit. I have several extra parts laying around that I had been assured by the seller was what I needed. Having the wrong part is the only way I have figured out what not to get at times.

???.. never seen one that would work right "without" that grommet in tha top of tha housin'?.. don't see how it could seal against tha copper tube?.. never seen a "kit" that didn't include one either.. i have gotten new housings with tha grommet already poked down in tha neck and had ta check for it... yeah, tha parts "kit" is very generic.. lots a folks screw tha install up with wrong pieces and such first coupla times they do 'em... a zip tie and piece by piece removal is your friend with first one.............
part "A" is justa guide for tha copper tube into tha top of tha housin'.. its only function...

Yeah your right TLW. I'm sure it must have stayed in the original housing and the housings I've gotten must have already had it in there. That part b has come in the kit but I don't know if it was just extra or a different size maybe. This is a part I've never found a use for. And several other o-rings. Above post edited

That ring slides over the drive shaft and seats on top of the water pump housing.

is that a "straight sided ring" ?.. straight sided is whats called a slinger.. does like nitro says.. "B" is tapered and goes INSIDE top of housing...

Yep... it's a straight ring. That's what I did with it last time according to the schematic, even though mine came without it. I can't tell that it does anything but it didn't look like it could hurt either.
Good info ya'll.
