So, I love to fish. Especially bass fishing!! I do have a bass boat and go more often than I should. The wife likes to go just a few times a year. Well, we were talking about getting back in shape and trying to find something we could do together... blah blah blah. So y’all know where this goes?
Looking for an ideal kayak for her (not fishing, just reading, exercising, bringing the lunch, making sammiches) joke
Me: want something I can fish out of some, take a little bit of gear, rods, tackle, anchor, etc etc.
Trying to jeep it budget friendly but don’t want junk either. What y’all recommend?

What is your budget? What is the weight of you + all gear, and her weight? How will you transport and store the kayaks? There are a lot of choices out there. Budget kayaks tend to have low weight capacities and don't paddle too well.

I have had three different kayaks and they are all completely different.
First one was a Feel Free Lure 11.5. Super stable, had a rudder and needed it for tracking. Easy to stand and fish. Paddled like a barge. Sold it because it was simply too hard to paddle and far too slow.
Second was an older Wilderness Tarpon 160. Very stable when seated. Could not stand in it (at least I couldn't) Paddled like a bullet. Had a rudder but was only needed when it was really windy. Sold it because hauling was a PITA.
Third is a Hobie Outback. Kinda in the middle of the other two. Pedals instead of paddle and fairly easy to peddle. It is NOT a rocket but it won't kill you to paddle or peddle it. I still have this one and it is a great compromise.
Luck will beat skill any time you have enough of it!

Me I’m heavy. I’d say 350 with everything max!! Her I’d say 250 everything max. I have 2 shops I can put them in. Won’t be kept outside. I’d say $2k for a pair. I’ll probably buy a trailer and fix it up myself to haul. If not, I have a long bed dually they will fit in I think.

A good rule of thumb is to not exceed 70% of the stated weight capacity of the kayak. Doing so affects performance and starts to crowd your safety margin. So that includes your weight plus the weight of tackle, cooler, and any other gear. You want something with a 500+ lb weight capacity, and about 400 lb weight capacity for your wife.
Don't forget to invest in a good and comfortable PFD and always wear it. A good, light paddle of the proper length also is important. Always check the weather forecast.
Shopping is half the fun.

OP as mentioned you'll need a kayak with a good weight capacity. Most if not all kayaks with a 500 lb plus weight capacity are not going to be easy to paddle. Keep that in mind. Your budget is fine and you can get a pair of nice kayaks for that but it's not a peddle kayak budget. You're looking at paddle kayaks. Good news is used kayaks are selling really cheap right now due to the economic times. I've included this link before. This is a good deal and it's been for sale for a while and would be my #1 recommendation for you. https://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/boa/d/fort-worth-new-2019-native-kayak/7068980555.html Also either a NuCanoe Frontier 12, Ocean Kayak Big Game 2 or an Old Town Predator XL would all be good options for you. For her I would consider getting a fishing kayak too. They are a lot easier to sell if that option comes up and gives her the option to carry a fishing pole if she wants. I'd say something 11' to 12' long with an elevated seat and a nice rear tank well to store sandwich making stuff Kidding lol. For her there's a lot of options. An Old Town Topwater 120 is a really good kayak that paddles well, isn't too heavy and has good weight capacity. Wilderness Ride 115, Vibe Seaghost 110 or Bonafide RS117 would also be solid options.
You get out of it what you put into it!

Great kayak! One downside to this one is the weight capacity is only 350 lbs.

Native Slayer XC in the CL add above is an awesome boat...I chose the Bonafide over the Slayer frankly because of the chair...bad backs need comfortable chairs.... If you're not in a big hurry I would bet Mariner Sails will have a demo day as soon as all this social distancing is over with.

I was in the same boat (pun intended) as you last year. Mama wanted a boat to play around in. After trying out a few, she decided on the Crescent UltraLite. It's pretty plain, but has plenty of track to rig up more than you'd need. She's happy with it. I've fished it a couple times. Paddles and fishes better than I thought a 10' boat would.

There’s a Ride 135 (you) for $750 and a Viking profish (wife) for $800 in the tkf right now. Both near Houston. I’d buy the Viking if I wasn’t set on a Hobie.
