Thinking seriously about getting a livescope. Any suggestions on setup? Also is there an advantage of mounting on trolling motor versus independent mount?
Thanks!

You’re going to see quite a few comments. Here is one that I will make, which is the most important.

Independent mount is the way to go. Period.

Size and all that other stuff, are small details. Get an independent mount. In case I wasn’t clear, get an independent mount.

100% get an independent mount. I’ve fished with both setups and as stated above the most important thing is an independent mount for crappie fishing.

I have used both setups and quite honestly was not at all happy with the trolling motor mount. First I do not want it on the shaft of the trolling motor as I use spot lock a lot and it will not stay in one place long. If I am going to target fish I need to be able to see the fish! I am going to put a link in here, but this is one that I made. It is version 4.0 I think (I think on the video). It cost me about $65.00 to make. I made this after buying two $300 mounts that I did not like. I use this setup still and love it. Can set it up in the time it takes to turn my 1022 on. Hope this helps you. Good luck and you will love it once you figure it out. I spent two weeks thinking I wasted money. Now I would give twice the money I paid for it.

After thinking about it a little more, I think you should get an independent mount.

Independent mount all the way. Shut up and fish Is who I purchased mine from and I love it. I hit spot lock and turn on the picture show. It’s amazing my friend it’s amazing. But at the end of the day they are either gonna bite or not bite. Oh on my setup I bought the cornfield crappie dual mount and I love it. One for my live scope and the other for sonar.

I would put it on a independent pole and one important consideration is to use a pole that you can custom bend so the handle ends up exactly where you want it to end up. I talk to so many guys who tell me they hate having to bend over or keep reaching to the side to turn the pole. You also want one that is easy to stand up and lay down when you fish/move and not have to mess with a Ram mount which seems to go in a dozen different ways when you loosen the knob.

I make the LiftSaver Transducer Pole Mount which is one of the most solid built one out there (no cheap fiberglass/plastic pole/parts).

Please check it out at https://www.liftsavertmmount.com/ls-transducer-pole.

A vote for a separate pole mount. I tried the $40 PVC and ram mount option and did not like it. I now have the liftsaver pole and it works great. the simple advice Ron gave me (but i would have overlooked it) is to mount the pole on the opposite side of which hand you naturally hold your pole. this gives you total control while fishing. i originally planned to mount opposite the trolling motor simply to have more mounting space but glad i avoided that mistake. good luck!

There are two types of Livescoper'...Chaser' and Squatter' Those that chase (roaming open water, timber fish) are on the trolling motor. Those that squat (utilize the anchor feature of the trolling motor) will have it on a separate pole mount of some kind. The PoleDucer is a very versatile unit and most likely the easiest to utilize throughout your time on the water. With the 60" marine-grade fiberglass shaft that allows for the Livescope or any other transducer to me ran inside the shaft for cable management gives you the ability to simply raise and lower the shaft when going from stop to stop all day long. No need to stow and deploy each time you want to move. (see video)

The PoleDucer will come standard with a 12" 3/8 All-Thread handle. One can purchase from Home Depot or Lowes a longer 3/8 All-Thread to make there handle longer if needed. Here is a fantastic handle option for the PoleDucer. It is very lightweight and works extremely well and the handle is telescoping and extends 24" to 36".

Big Foot Telescopic Extension Handle
Easy to install. The Big Foot Telescopic Extension Handle fits the PoleDucer shaft. Lightweight, durable and corrosion-resistant. Handle length adjusts from 24" to 36".
(can be found on-line or at BPS)

I have the Poleducer now but am not a fan of the independent pole but I want to be able to adjust by hand. Having a mount made for a pole added to my Force TM much like the mounts made by Cornfield Crappie but hand controlled. Just do not want another remote or foot switch on the deck. As most have stated decide how you want to use, spend some time with someone who has it.

FYI: We have heard a lot from our customers that have purchased the independent pole mounted to the trolling motor direct. They tell us with the transducer so close to the trolling motor shaft they are getting a "blindspot" on their Livesope display. We have seen more of the direct assembly pole mounts for sale (used) over any other models out there.
