Man really nice kayaks. Used to own the profish that was turquoise. But what’s up with the cheap seat? Think they’ll come up with something better? Even if it’s just along the lines of the Ride or Trident seats.

Ryan Ford, the US distributor, came up with a new seat last year, it is taller, has a ventilated back, and has pockets. I installed a Hurricane backrest and just use a seat pad, I like it a lot better. I doubt you'll see Viking come out with a raised seat, low center of gravity is what they advocate.

Personally in the reload i dont use a seat. In my 440 i do use a soft seat. This is a prime example of purpose built boats. You wouldnt want to haul a sofa in a corvette...same thing. Many of the new kayaks are made for people who travel on the water very little. When it comes to viking and a few other brands and models they are built for maximum performance in big water. Anyone who paddles distance and paddles properly should never touch the back rest. It kills the power from your paddle stroke. I am glad viking and a few others have held out and stayed focused on performance rather than submitting to the trend of high low seats. I do agree the trident has a nice seat. You could probably make some kind of base out of fiberglass that the trident seat could bolt to. I am more of a kayak purest. I will never have....not likley have a pedal drive for my main yak. I love viking. They have a great line of boats. I would get another 400 if i could.

This is the Ryan Ford seat. I'm very comfortable in my Viking with just the seat pad and the way the tush and thigh area are contoured. I also like sitting low in the kayak. The fun thing about kayaks is you can modify them, if you like the Viking see if you can fit the Ocean Kayak seat or something similar to it.

You have to look at the way the kayak is designed. Viking kayaks are contoured so you don't need a fancy thick cushy seat. The floor of the kayaks are curve so your legs are supported which takes pressure of your lower back. I have a really thin seat in my Profish 400 and I can fish out of it without getting sore as long if not longer than I can in my Pro Angler.

There's a reason you don't see many used Viking kayaks for sale. They're very well designed in every aspect.

That is something to consider before pulling the trigger on one.

I hear what you're saying. My Viking Profish 400 is probably a little wetter than my PA 14 tank. But it's definitely not any wetter than my wifes 2020 Outback.
