Went to upgrade a rod that i received for Vietnam Vet Day, I did not have my receipt. They said without a receipt they would give me the price that it sold for in the last 90 days, $14.00 is what it came up to be,Daiwa model#AIRX70MFB 7'0" the rod is a $70 rod . I have shopped here for years, no problem with returns that are new , they just put it on a gift card and they still would get the money back. Maybe if a few of us quit buying from this company, then if it affects their sells just like nike and the NFL.

Respectfully I do not see how a person's veteran status should be a consideration in a return. Sucks youbdid not get full value on the return but sounds like they clearanced out some of those rods recently. There are people out there that take advantage of those situations so I doubt they were targeting veterans only.
The Daiwa Aird rods are $49.99-54.99 and should have MAP pricing unless on clearance so they stand to lose $40 per rod that gets returned with no receipt if they deviate.

Again I hate it affected you though.

Sounds pretty standard for any company. If they have had it on sale recently they aren't going to let you buy it at the sales price and return it for full price refund. Not saying that is what you are trying to do but you know people would. If I return without the receipt that is how I expect it to be handled.

I don't understand what your complaint is. Or how being a vet has anything to do with it.

Without a receipt how do they know you bought it there? Surprised they would give you anything back without a receipt.

Academy often has some smoking deals but they are store to store. Have seen some craziness like a certain color Jackhammer for $3.99 or $200 rods for $35.

I'm sorry, I fail to see an issue with their business practice. You went in to "upgrade" had no proof of purchase and expected to get full price for the return. That's not how any retail company works. They would have honored the price had a record of sale been in your email, you brought a receipt, or had the ability to prove sale via credit card.

thanks for your service to our country, sir

But, how did your veteran status make the value of your return any less?

I'm a Veteran myself and don't see how this is a factor in any way. At least they take returns without a receipt, that better then most.

Academy pulls that with all of their products. They don’t advertise a price but randomly mark stuff way low for a day so they can pull that chit.

I've seen them mark something down to a ridiculously low price and that item getting wiped out within a few hours or sooner. I highly doubt that they mark it down and take a loss for the sole purpose of lowballing someone just in case they don't have their receipt on some later day.

They randomly mark down stuff just so they can give vets who show up wanting a full refund with no receipt a discounted refund? Interesting conspiracy theory but OK, got it.
