This snip taken from zdnet page today:

There's now COVID-19 malware that will wipe your PC and rewrite your MBR
Security researchers have discovered coronavirus-themed malware created to destroy users' computers.

Be advised, be prepared and good luck

cheers

So dafanman what's your favorite security software nowadays..?? I used to be partial to Trend Micro but I've been out of the IT game for a couple of years. Building a couple of new systems here at home to keep myself busy....fish still ain't biting very well here in Edmond...:)

Thanks...

I would be interested as well - I "renewed" several antiques and they're happily humming along with WX . . . . . .

As always, many thanks for your service to this old fart.

Ever since the massive multi 73 country ransom ware attack about 2 years ago, after all the dust settled and the reports were in
it showed that windows 10 defender was the most prepared and most effective AV against that kind of threat.

I used to recommend Avast, that is until they decided to be like Mcafee, and Norton and focus on too many other things besides
just being a great AV engine, not that either of those were ever good for the average user, but Avast has now tried to become a do
all prog, and it is just not working out imho.

All my computers run windows defender, backed up by some other "on demand" scanners, It is what I put on all computers I work
on and unless they just are not telling me, my clients do not routinely suffer virus, malware infections ect...

What about Kaspersky? My computer guy highly recommends using this. It must be at least OK as I have not had any problems for the past 5 years or so since I've had it. But I'm a little extra careful about clicking on embeded links.

Kaspersky is good and it's what I previously used at work before switching to SentinelOne. Unfortunately SentinelOne doesn't offer a consumer level product. They only sell to corporate sized entities, but they're the best if you can get it.

Look in the Control Panel and enable it . Be sure it updates as well . It comes with most windows operating systems .

Oldrabbit:

Sorry I do not have enough working knowledge of the Mac OS to make a recommendation, my area of focus has always been the windows OS

I have a mac book pro that I rescued from the dead, but mainly use it just to face time with my daughter
