Anyone else seeing indications of the Shad Spawning? Looks like it is starting out here in some West Texas lakes.

No evidence. My expereince is we need 70-75 degree water, night time temps in the upper 60's to low 70's with day time highs in the 80's. In North Texas it starts in mid April and usuually peaks May 1-May 15

Yes, seeing the beginnings of it south of I-20 way, way back of creeks in low light conditions.
Water temp 78 in the morning, and getting up to 83 by the end of the day.

Water temps on Travis yesterday morning were in the high 60's. We've had some cool nights in the last few days. No sign of shad spawn that I saw yesterday.

Lake Travis is a very deep, clear reservoir. The lakes that will warm up fastest are those that have shallow, stained water and are already covered in thick pads and grass.

Early morning you will see the shad up shallow with lots of flipping on top of the water. They will start following your baits to the boat. You can usually see the bigger shad rubbing on ledges, trees, grass etc during the day where deeper water meets the shallows.. Birds (loons and gulls) fishing shallow is another good indicator.

I am sure there are more but that what usually cues me in.

Shad spawn is definitely here at the smaller central texas lakes and i saw it starting last week.

73 temps yday in backs of creeks. Loaded with shad with bass busting them all up along reed lines.
