I break down the need for both heavy and light wire hook swim jigs, how I fish them, and how to pick colors/sizes/equipment to maximize performance!

Which type of swim jig is your favorite to fish? Do you use braid or fluorocarbon?

I would think one factor would be the need for different rods. Stout rod to drive home the heavy wire used around cover and lighter rod for the light wire, used in open water.

Enjoy the vids Andrew. I'm also trying to decide when to throw a swim jig vs when to throw a chatterbait/spinnerbait etc. Thoughts? By the way, I live in the Austin area and we have super clear and deep water. Chatterbaits and spinnerbaits for me only seem to work well if there is a shad spawn going on or in low light conditions.

Five bites...to be honest, a swim jig works way better in clear water. The lack of vibration and flash makes it a Killer bait. The only time I pick up a chatterbait or Spinnerbait in clear water is low light conditions or a windy day. I think you are on the right track!

Heavy cover or timber- heavy wire hook with 17 or 20lb line. Fishing grass edges making long cast I’ll throw a light wire hook on 15 lb line. I throw a swim jig all the time. Clear to muddy water. The color of the jig changes. Also the way I fish it. Biggest trick is don’t set the hook when you feel the fish hit it. Keep reeling and load the rod, then set the hook. Or at least that’s what works for me.

This is pretty close to what I do as well. Especially the hook set..... keep it moving till heavy then lights out. Works 99% of the time.
