Why does it shut down the fishing in North Central and East Texas lakes above the dam/the whole lake (including spotted bass)?

But turns them on in the TVA and other river lake systems?

Is it because the bass in river system lakes are born in current and live their whole lives utilizing current to their advantage? The bass here rarely experience high current, and when they do, they get weird and hide?

Does releasing water turn them on in the Colorado River system lakes in central Texas (above the dam/spillway)? Or does it shut them down there also?

I don't think it turns them off here. They were pulling water almost all of last spring and I had one of my best years.

That’s sort of what I’m thinking. Maybe it’s more of a colder, muddy water factor that sometimes coincides with opening the gates.

Here's my experience, fishing lots of east tx lakes, as well as NE Oklahoma water generation lakes like Grand and Hudson where I grew up. On Hudson when the water is dropping from generation or releasing flood water the fishing in the coves, pockets, and banks will often slow or turn off. But if I move out to some of the main lake points near the old river channel, areas where there is some current, the fishing can be great. Maybe also some florida vs northern strain dna?

Interesting. Yeah, not lots of current in those Florida lakes.

frankly, to me, it has nothing to do with current and everything to do with water clarity and the amount of water. Ever see a person who has lost their sight? They take advantage of their other senses. Bass are no different than any other animal...if their sight is reduced, they initially are confused for a few days until instincts and hunger make them take advantage of other senses like vibrations down the lateral line.

Or, one of those variables we try to correlate to help explain our madness that has little to do with anything. hmmm

You've got lots of water coming in at the other side so it has less of the drain effect. Current creates oxygen and positions the food chain starting with the baitfish. That's why funnels hold so many active fish like bridges.

My best days on Fork have been when they’re releasing water.

Weren’t they releasing during the BPT?
