I don’t think it’s a specific tempo, I set mine at medium slow, if I don’t draw in fish then I try another spot. Certain times fish are more responsive than others and sometimes you thump them in but they don’t want to bite.

I set mine as fast as it will thump. That seems to work best for me.

My grandson was needing a science project for school , so I told him we should build a thumper with a solar panel for the power . My grandson is 12 , so he was excited about the project . Some things to consider before we start the project . Will it be variable speed , remote control , rubber hammer or ball ping hammer and the most important part of a thumper is the 12 volt motor . Our thumper has all these options , ( ball ping ) the 12 volt motor is 180 rpm , car seat motor, 15.00, plus shipping , from Amazon. My first thumper has a rubber hammer , remote control , variable speed , 12 volt motor 100 rpm , My second thumper has a ball ping hammer , remote control , variable speed , 12 volt motor 190 rpm . My third thumper ( Science Project )has a ball ping hammer , remote control , variable speed , 12 volt motor 180 rpm. The third thumper was used yesterday at Cedar Creek for the first time. It did its job all day , no problems . Over 100 sand bass caught and released with my grandson. After building and using three different thumpers , my choice of speed the 190 rpm or 180 rpm (Science Project ). The difference between having a good day and a great day is thumping , make it a great day . Not sure if this helps , this our personal experience with thumpers. Lol

I have always thumped about 90 thumps per minute. That speed has worked well for me for 15 years. Use the timer on your smartphone and count the thumps for 1 minute. Adjusting at 30 seconds up or down if you don’t get 45 thumps. From 85 to 95 is probably close enough. On my thumpers if the motor is turned up all the way it’s too fast. The arms catch the hammer before the hammer hits the base. That tears things up pretty quick. My 2cents

Do you have to add a gate to your thumper to get the Bonzo sound?
