Sitting at the ramp...

2018 ZX250

Engine runs fine, gauges turn on but the entire toggle switch panel will not power on. Breakers are not tripped, fuses are fine.

Why is this panel not powering on?

Maybe if you weren't at everyone's sister's house folks would be more prone to help you...

Gonna have to get under the rocker to find out. Pop the rocker off and then the unit it self is just clipped in. You can squeeze the tabs on it to pull it out of position for inspection.

The power for engine and gauges is almost always run on separate conductors that are part of the engine harness. Builders tap that power for the gauges so they are only on when you have the outboard on. So, I'm not surprised those work. At the battery, you will have a connection for power that goes to the console. If done properly, it should have a breaker or fuse close to the battery end of that conductor. If that fuse is blown, or breaker tripped, you'd have a working outboard & gauges, but no panel power. My bet is the problem is there. If you have a breaker attached to the main battery for this, you could disconnect it and temporarily touch the other terminal of the breaker to the battery post. This bypasses the breaker so you can see if power returns to the console.

If you have had connections off the battery recently, make sure you got all the wires back on there. I've seen a boat come in the shop when the only problem was a ground wire that got left off when a battery got changed out.

Also check for corrosion, loose or bad connection at the battery, both ground and positive...

tighten your ground on the battery, that is the problem with most electrical on boats.

it can make contact enough to start the engine but vibration will break contact again.

Sorry to resurrect a year old post, but I had the same thing happen to me this morning and I was hoping you found a simple solution?

I think there is a single connection behind the ZX panel that might have came undone.if so just reconnect it and all should work again.

Thanks Mark. I’ll go and try that.
