One of my stock tanks completely dried up back a few years ago in the drought we had in Texas. I haven't fished it since. This morning I rigged a spinning rig with light braid and floro leader, and tied on a jig head and grub and jumped in my truck and drove to that stock tank to practice skipping. Because I suck at it. First cast that grub skidded across the water perfectly, i let it fall , picked up and this little fat boy was on. I caught 3 more a little smaller and then went to some brush and caught the Blue Gill on just a small chunk left of the grub. I had not thought about fishing that tank since it dried up. God works in mysterious ways.

I have wondered this sometimes how fish get in there without stocking... maybe during a flood you have a creek that runs into it?

And we're supposed to stop the spread of zebra mussels by draining our livewells and sumps?

That’s cool! I wonder if birds transfer eggs somehow. Sometimes. Maybe. Otherwise, I guess it has to be flood waters.

Yep, floods or water birds. Eggs get stuck to their legs and they can transfer them short distances.

Thanks, didn't look like so much like bluegill but didn't know what else.

The tank doesn't have a feeder , so had to be birds transferring eggs. I have other tanks with bass, sunfish, and cats and neighbors do as well. That one was dry 4 years ago. There were a lot of crayfish skeletons around the edges before all the rain. They have been eating well.

Fish eggs stick to ducks feet, and that's how it happens.

I hope things work out like that in my tanks. God does indeed work in mysterious ways!
