I dethatched and aerated my yard this weekend. I've got a few bare spots around and have thought about laying sod in these areas but have also thought about throwing out some grass seed. My question is where is the best place to get grass seed? I know HD and Lowes sells it, but also know what they sale is going to have filler in it. Am I going to run into the same thing if I go to Atwoods, a feed store and the like? If so, what's a good brand to go with? My yard is bermuda and I'm sticking with that.

I don't have personal experience but have read many times that Arden 15 is the way to go for Bermuda grass seed.

I don't think I'll be getting Arden 15... It's $33 a pound on Amazon and appears to be for golf courses/putting greens.

Its best to "not" over seed Bermuda. Most sod is a hybrid type and seed is a common. The color and blade sizes will most likely be different than your existing lawn. Take some plugs from your good grass and transfer them to the spot that needs filling in. Throw down the fertilizer in that area and watch it fill. That's amusing the spots are bare from other reasons than shade.

Grub worms are the likely culprit. Dig up the bare spot first about 6”-8” deep. If you have more than 5-6 grubs per square foot, then you have an infestation and need to kill them out.

Go get some Tif bermuda sod and dig out the area enough so it's level with existing yard when installed. If you have grubs, cinch bugs or other pest, use Traizicide.

On a side note, night time temps need to stay above 60 degrees for the grass to germinate and new growth to really start.
