Chatterbaits are probably the go to for me when fishing anywhere. I recently found out you can buy the blades and so now it has me on the quest to start changing out skirts/jig heads and so on. Wanted to get any ideas from anyone who also does this about websites they get their stuff from.
I also at one point had some type of jerkbait chatterbait that they no longer make and was looking into making one of these but my first attempt left me with a jerk bait that isn't swimming right. Anyone else able to throw these chatterblades on anything besides a jig or swim bait?

I use Barlow's tackle, been making chatter baits and double blade buss bait.

Unfortunately, you will have trouble finding coffin shaped blades or jigheads designed to attach the blade directly to the jighead because of the patent. Also, the blades from Barlow's and other tackle supply places seem to be a little thicker and give a little different action. The parts you buy now online are designed to attach the blade to the jig with a split ring. When using a split ringl you seem to get a little wider wobble and slightly slower vibration. That is good at times. If you want to duplicate the original chatterbait action you need to make your own blades. I cut mine out of the stainless steel cover off of an old broken microwave. There are some jigheads that you can open up the eye just enough to put the blade on and then close the eye back up. The early Z Man chatterbaits were not that great of a quality with some of the components. However, they make some with better components now so I don't really see that much of a reason to make them anymore.

RKT the old direct attached I made from Barlow’s components use to out fish chatterbaits 10-1. Having to attach with a ring does affect action but they still catch ......I think finch nasty originally used Barlow’s components with a ring attachment and caught a 13..... so probably more about how and where you fish it. I like a tight wobble over grass and like ripping off the bottom through scattered grass, the ring attachment makes that harder to get wobble. I like a bit of a slower wider wobble around timber. The old Barlow’s ones I made use to have this erratic action and would occasionally jump out of rhythm on a standard retrieve. I still make my own and modify some to try to get that action again. I think that it would make followers attack it. For me chatterbait bite has been off on fork a bit. But we were crushing them on Monticello before closed to big boats.
