When you go this route make sure you withhold taxes from what you give your partner. When you get the tax statement it’s going to be in your name

It should be split if you each get new boats from time to time and could be eligible from either of your boats. If you stagger this correctly and each get a boat every 6 to 8 years you can stay in bonus money on many trails. If you have a new boat but he always has an old one or buys used then you should keep the money or at least a larger captains share. That's pretty much the way I see it.

If your one on here that buys a new boat enough to stay in the bonus checks then you have enough money that you shouldn’t care how it’s split. If not, and you spent the money and your partner does not, that’s your money. I’m talking strictly the bonus money for boat brand and upgrades on that boat. Your partner in that case has done literally nothing to Earn it. They earned the split winnings from tournament but not the bonus checks for the upgrades and purchases you made without them.
It’s not a marriage and the person with the boat is losing a lot more than their partner so any partner that has a problem with that is as selfish as they’ll try to make you feel.

Teams pick their partners and most try to team up with someone they think they can win with. Doesn’t matter whose boat they are in. Teams split expenses from entry fee to fuel evenly. Even split of any winnings also. I wouldn’t fish with a team partner that thought any other way.

Split it 50/50.....if $500 to $1500 is gonna cause you that much grief in taxes then keep it I guess. I figured my partber helpedus do well enough to win so I'm splitting it no questions asked.

Some tournament incentives are getting rather large. A standard event ranges from $250 to $1000 and a Double Up on our Quest Tournament Incentive is $2000.
We pay $7500 for a win in Bass Champs now and splitting $7500 would leave the boat owner obligated to a significant tax burden.
