The jury is still out for me on China. I strongly suspect a bunch more people died than they are claiming. That said, I do think they've been successful in stopping the spread. There is zero doubt in my mind those hardcore lock-downs would work. At an enormous cost, but they work. I'd be stunned though if there isn't another outbreak as they bring everything back online.

The RI Nat'l Guard is turning all NY vehicles back from their borders. Trump may not have to do anything if the states bordering NY won't let those vehicles cross their state lines.

Honestly it's probably not legal - I hate to agree with an imbessel like Cuomo, but it's probably not legal.

On the flip side, this thing is going to spread nation-wide and shut down huge chunks of the country if they don't do something like that. He's danged if he does and danged if he doesn't.

Problem is people have been spreading it all last week and that's not even in the numbers yet. A week from now we will be in the range of 300k confirmed cases and somewhere in the 1M range a week or so after that. Maybe folks will start to take it seriously then...

Well, I think Cuomo is a grandstanding azz! The 40,000 ventilators thing is way overblown. I think he is politically posturing. If he had 40K vents he wouldn't have near enough medical personnel to manage them. You don't just plug a person to them and turn it on. They sometimes need hourly oversight and many patients need very frequent in-line suctioning to manage pulmonary secretions. It takes one respiratory therapists to manage 5-7 vents. There just isn't that kind of medical personnel there.
