Ok this same thing happened on my 06 skeeter and I replaced the fuel line and bulb from the tank to the motor. It didn’t fix the problem. I took it to service marine in Emory and it ended up being the pick up line inside the tank. It split at the top and was sucking in air at idle. Once it would start I could put it in gear and give it throttle and it would run fine, just not idle for more than about a minute. I would pump the bulb and get it running and then go. He cut off about an inch where it was cracked and hooked it back up and never had another problem. That was a lot cheaper than replacing the whole sending unit. I just had to remember that I would run out of fuel and inch early.

Another possible problem would be the anti-siphon valve at the top of the fuel tank. The valve is spring loaded and a weak fuel pump may not have enough suction to pull fuel past the valve. Removing the anti-siphon valve solves the problem. However, you're not supposed to do that.
Sometimes the pickup tube has a filter (small screen) inside the tube and trash will clog that filter. After the motor dies, the pressure is released, the trash falls back down the tube and fuel flows again till the trash collects.

Sometimes the pickup tube has a filter (small screen) inside the tube and trash will clog that filter. After the motor dies, the pressure is released, the trash falls back down the tube and fuel flows again till the trash collects. I pointed out the possible anti-siphon valve possibility about halfway on page 1 of the thread. He says it only does this at idle, which doesn't exclude the valve as a culprit so that's still a possibility. As for trash blocking the pickup, I agree that can happen, but if the problem is trash, it won't ONLY happen when he idles. In fact, at higher suction (higher RPM) the pickup is more likely to get blocked than at idle speed. Because his issue is at idle only, I don't think he has the trash in tank problem.

Did this start after you tried launching and retrailering from “that bridge” the kayakers are using?

My friend had the exact same problem after idling for long periods of time. He couldn’t figure out what was causing the problem. A mechanic told him to change his primer bulb. He changed the bulb and hasn’t had a problem since. that would be my first thing to do as well

Was idling along and it started to idle rough then died. Wouldn’t start for 5-10 minutes. The I pumped the bulb a few times, heard a hissing sound and she started back up just fine and ran like a champion. Fuel line leak? My opti would do the same thing if I idled for any length of time. Ended up being a bad diaphragm in fuel system
