04' Yamaha 225, acting up , so I took it to the shop. The mechanic calls a couple of hours later and said " bad news", and " you gotta come and look at this"..

I'm not sure how it happened, but it looks like the block has somehow separated from the lower exhaust manifold, in the process , breaking that piece and shearing off the bolts in the block. Has anyone ever see anything like this?

The engine still runs believe it or not.. and was taking me across the lake at 62 mph last Saturday. I'm not sure that this can be fixed and it might require another motor. pics attached.. Any and all opinions welcome..

Wow, that's a weird break. I wonder if bolts coming loose or breaking may have caused this.

If it still runs good, try having a competent welder take a shot at it.

Me? I’d be looking to repower.

I agree try having a welder give it a try . If not you maybe needing a new head . You might try calling and see if it’s available to buy . New engine could be costly .

a little back information, I bought this boat used last November. It had a new powerhead (appr. 100 hrs on it), and a rebuilt lower unit.. A repower would be great, but with a used engine with who knows how many hours on it going for over 5 grand, it is simply not in my budget during this time of uncertainty. Are there any welders on here that may want to take a crack at it? At this point, I don't know if there is anything to lose.

I think I have located the exhaust part, around 500.00, it's the labor of getting to it that looks daunting.

If it still runs - run it hard through a stump field and see if it will come off completely, then call your insurance provider ......... just kidding of course, maybe

Just baby it until you can afford a replacement motor. Go 35-40 instead of 62. Sounds like you may not have gotten all the right info from the seller.

Call hydrotec marine. Let them look at the pics and they may have the parts you need or know where to get then
