After church Sunday I made the trip over to Lake Somerville to walk up and fish my favorite creek taking my new Goture fly rod & reel and a ugly muddler fly to test the waters. The fish actually cooperated and gave the new fly and Goture gear a workout making for a perfect day up the creek..

Fly gear from Goture can be found at goture.com.

I purchased rod, reel & line from amazon, total was just over $100.00 (a very good value)

I knew this couldn't last long.. For all of those that are wondering this is Jerdelle creek off of FM1948..
Rain on Friday, Saturday & Sunday last week pushed the creek up enough to get the whitebass and hybrids up into it but when the creek returned to normal the fish left in a hurry..
So by Thursday only a few stragglers were left wondering where the party went!

Curiosity kills cats and it would have taken me out long ago if I was a cat. The whitebass spawning run up the creeks for the year is complete over at Lake Somerville. The only way to know for sure is to go fishing yourself and that's what I did April 1st... no foolin'! In the effort to get my exercise during this social distancing age I hiked up to the creek through a mile of high grass and brushy forest to find the sunfish have taken the place of the whitebass and hybrids as the creek returned to normal flow and level.
