The alarm in North Central Texas has finally sounded! Sunfish have come roaring out of the winter doldrums and incessant monsoon rains with a vengeance! The big boys have come out to play! My pond is producing slab sized greenies. My buddy's honey hole is producing near 1 lb bluegills! No live bait needed. Black/chartreuse 32nd oz tube jig, slow rolled! Those are some excellent green sunfish....but it takes the presence of a few bass to manage their numbers so they can reach those sizes.

Only got 7 of those big guns today. Oh well. But on the other hand, hit a creek walking distance from my house(long walk!), and in 15 minutes, limited out on SPOTTED BASS that had bellies bursting with shad and crawfish. Yes they were my fish fry, and no it's not overharvesting a creek that I've fished and caught quality fish of a variety of species. On one end when a lake gets too high from rains, abundant numbers of fish wash over an uncontrolled dam. On the other end, when the Elm Fork waters get too high and rough from heavy rains and controlled releases from reservoirs upstream, fish like white bass, hybrid Striper, largemouths, spotted bass and others seek the calmer, often clears waters of the creek. It is LOADED with spotted bass. Beautifully colored, fat, born rod benders and aerial acrobats!
