Greetings Everybody,
Is it just me, or did the MLF add a new rule? I noticed now the boat official now checks too see if the fish is caught and "hooked" in the mouth.

That's every organization when it comes to sight fishing only. Most state laws also, i think.

I always thought ii had to be in the mouth area. Didn't realize that at least one hook has to be inside the mouth but makes sense.

Only pertains to a sight fishing unless in a state like California. In Texas, it doesn't matter where you hook them as long as it's not intentional or sight fishing

next year when fish are on the bed,go try to snag one with a texas rigged senko....you going to find it's damn near impossible to do...a fish almost has to pull the plastic down, and expose the hook before you have a chance of hooking a fish...
I have no connection whatsoever with Jeff Sprague but he had a referee 6 ft from him watching him fish that testified he did not snag that fish on purpose...he also offered to take a polygraph test to further prove he was telling the truth..
It's a crying shame that we have people on this forum willing to hurt a man's reputation based on what they thought they saw on the podcast...

I don't know that anyone is claiming he intentionally snagged the fish. BUT he was sight fishing (even though he claimed he didn't see the fish, then claimed he thought it was a gar). Whether intentional or not, if your sight fishing, the fish has to be hooked in the mouth or it's not a legal catch. He should have thrown the fish back without weighing it, not shield the fish with his body and unhook it with his back to the camera.

My question is, what if you can't see the fish or even know if it's in the bed? Are you still sight fishing by definition? Majority of my sight fish I catch from a distance where I just know where the bed is. I rarely have to see the fish. In my opinion no different than flipping to a tree or dock multiple times in a row.
