I've been writing up homeschool lessons for the kids because the school's lesson plans all require the kids to be on the computer - apps, online content, etc. (that's like giving a case of beer to an AA meeting in my opinion!). I've figured out all too quickly that the level of academic expectation in 7th grade is rather low. So now he's learning economics and mathematics whether he likes it or not.
In the meantime, we had an epiphany about dinnertime. We dish up vegetables in a small bowl & give that first. Kids have to eat their veggies to get the rest of dinner.
No more wasted vegetables!!

Zeke, you may not like the idea of the kids being on line but if that's what it takes for them to stay caught up with regular school stuff that's important.

Zeke, you may not like the idea of the kids being on line but if that's what it takes for them to stay caught up with regular school stuff that's important. That's just it. There's no 'regular' school stuff at the moment - the standardized testing is cancelled for this school year, and the lesson plans that are available aren't even intended to be full school days. It's just giving parents something to keep the kids busy. I'd rather help them catch up in their education, and maybe - just maybe - each of them will be able to skip a grade later on.

Great time to begin learning a second language.

Great time to begin learning a second language. You mean like take them to the garage and have them smash their thumb with a hammer and see what comes out of their mouths? Mine is pretty colorful but not sure what language it is from.

Teachers are scrambling to come up with things to fill the time they were planning to fill with prepping for all the state tests.
