Any of the community lakes in Lubbock have crappie? I moved to this barren wasteland three years ago, sold my boat and everything. Should be stacking them on a lake somewhere, but I'm stuck on the bank in the middle of the high plains.
Lubbock isn’t that bad except for the winds, I get a good laugh every time people gripe about their winds or call themselves the Windy City.
I’ve found crappie in one lake, although they’re in all of them, behind the tennis center on 66th St. between Indiana and University. If you look on the NW side of the lake, you’ll see a drainage culvert. This time of the year, the crappie seem to pile up there. Cast a small jig down the sides of it and you’ll catch some decent ones. All these lakes are interconnected so there has to be crappie in all of them but I haven’t looked closely. I think they don’t thrive because they’re “playa lakes” and pretty much flat and featureless. I see a lot of people also fishing that island on the lake at Quaker and the loop. Mostly in kayaks but watch all the park rules because the city needs to get their share of the $$$

A friend of mine said he caught some good crappie in the lake of Clifford Andrews Park at 78th & Memphis. It had a lot of dirt moved out for fill dirt on houses built in that area, so it's pretty deep. He said he fished it in a float tube. I've never fished it, but just passing this along to try to help.
I've seen youtube videos of people catching crappie on jigs along the concrete around the bridges across some of the East Canyon Lakes around E. 19th St and MLK Blvd.
There is also a crappie house at Buffalo Springs Lake a few miles east of Lubbock. I've never fished it, but a buddy of mine fishes the lake regularly and puts up pictures of some big crappie.
Buffalo springs is loaded with crappie, you need a boat for that lake though
call it what you will...he is not definitely not anywhere near the top of the list for QB's that I would choose needing a FG or touchdown drive late in the game.

When I lived in Lubbock, Memorial Day weekend at Buffalo Springs the crappie fishing was fast and furious. I bank fished the coves along the upper end. This was 22 years ago. With global warming that time line may have moved earlier. I used to crappie fish the Canyon Lake where they crossed Ave Q,. There was flooded timber there at the time. I'm just glad I got to crappie fish LAH from the first day they opened the boat ramp until I moved to Dallas. That lake had some big fish in it.
if you have FB, check out a group called Fishing Lubbock. They can put you in the right direction. You can fish the boat slips at Buffalo and catch a mess. Or give the crappie house at Alan Henry a try. They seem to bite better at night at AH.
I fished Patrnflyr's spot last night. Another guy I met there said it used to be real good, but that the city filled in the holes some while the lake was down. There's still a little bit of a hole right there where the water runs in, maybe 6" deeper than the surrounding. I did catch one crappie about 8" long and lost another similar. I also checked out Casey park a bit further down 66th. The culvert end of that one has some nice looking contours. I feel like we might be a little early yet?
