Heck they just started about 15 days ago here around Austin. Yes some came and went but I saw a ton on beds at Travis today. Probably 25 in one little creek about 100 yards. Still have a good 4 weeks left. Rayburn Toledo same thing. Some of my best days weren't till April. It's just getting good

A few carp working together can clean a bed out in short order.
In some lakes they do many times more damage to the bass spawn than bed fishermen ever could..
And It's only getting worse.

What he said. The cold fronts have been strong enough to keep most of the fish from committing. I’m sure with the current conditions they are moving up in earnest now.

Really ?

In my neck of the woods-- I've seen guarding bass totally exhausted from TRYING to keep carp off there beds.
Even seen the carp work in unison... when the bass was chasing one his partner hit the nest.

Yes really. in your scenario, how much longer did your exhausted bass guard the nest with tens to hundreds of carp thrashing the area?

I have gotten to the point that if carp are in large numbers this time of year I go find another area they are not in. Have fished hard around them and never really catch much if they are heavy in an area.

Wait for the next full moon, you’ll see many more pull up. But the carp do drive them away so bring your bow with you.

Well, at least one of us thought about it. Now go get on your carp pattern!

Interesting discussion. To have a stable largemouth bass population a pair of bass only have to get 2 fish to breeding age in their entire lifetime and a female bass produces thousands of eggs each spawn. Some years the spawn time between species will overlap more than other years. Flooding, drought, and many other factors can affect the bass spawn. Bass and carp have co-existed in Texas lakes for years. For example, Lake Fork is known world wide for the size and quantity of carp and buffalo, but I think you would be hard pressed to say the carp and buffalo have adversely affected the largemouth bass population in Lake Fork.
