After this all passes, do you think there will be more demand to expand manufacturing in the U.S.A.? Will consumers be willing to spend a little extra on items that are made here? Personally, I do this as much as possible now. But I would love to see the market demanding this.

Yes, especially with India now shut down, we need to bring not just manufacturing, but the customer service industry back to the US.
Corporations need to suck it up and look at the big picture. The long term benefits of in house services and production outweigh the short term cost savings and larger risk of outsourcing.

American industry has a very short memory. When this is over, industry will gravitate back to the low cost producers that they were with before. American and local made are good rallying points for a while, but American consumers will buy mostly on price. I wish I was wrong, but I don’t think so.

Cheap labor = More profit!
I don't see it changing much, and maybe getting worse as we try to crawl out of this!

Just one more cast!

No, it will not happen. Companies will offshore and import because it is cheaper. The USA has a very, very short collective memory and rarely engages in long-term strategic thinking.

You're probably right. The American consumer would rather have a cheap item than a quality one. It's OK if China puts lead paint on our kids' toys as long as the price is right.

Wait until China decides to "play with" our generic prescription drugs (they make nearly all of them) and the supply line gets tight or cut off. We already have issues with quality control. In 2018-19 there were over 50 recalls of blood pressure meds because they contained jet fuel contaminants. There have been many more. There are less than 50 FDA inspectors from the US attempting to oversee about 3,000 facilities. But the prices are cheap so the American patient just pays the price and hopes that "Made in China" Rxs won't him/her.

We need to be safe. Our kids and grandkids need to be safe. We should be willing to pay a few $$ more to ensure it.

There are not many more "profits" to ring out of the towel.

Now it's reduced expenses. Only place to get it now...at least regularly.

Well kids I'm one of those "olds" you all keep banging on...and guess what...??? I've been saying for most of my professional career that we never should have sent all our manufacturing ,etc. overseas. They, and we know who "they" are does not nor will ever have our best interests in mind. I do not doubt that that when this all blows over that very few if any, corporations bring their production facilities back to the USA. Given the taxes, enviro-nuts, NIMBY people, and everything else it would cost them far to much to setup shop here again. Which as some have pointed out will be our downfall some day. You really think that there isn't a "backdoor" built into many of the circuit boards built overseas?? Seems to me I recall one of our regulatory agencies a few years back found some chips on some boards destined for our military had some "extra" chips on them. You really think the average American is going to know what to even look for on a PCA much less what that is...:)

When you acquire such a high percentage of your finished goods, medicines, etc. from countries that might not like you in the future for what ever reason....you have a potential major problem staring you in the face. The question is do we have the will and the leadership to at least try and do something about all of this.

How about reducing the stranglehold that the US government has on businesses so they can come back here?
