In fly fishing? No way

Nope. Not superior in my book...not even close.

A good day of white bass fishing for me can easily top 100 fish. My best day of black bass fishing was fewer than 20. That's good enough for me.

Apples to oranges. I enjoy them both for totally different reasons.

Winter - vertical fishing for whites (always a chance for a big kicker from another species.)
Spring - still chasing a DD bass
Late spring early summer - sunfish are on the beds (central Texas is blessed with big sunfish)
Dog days - early morning top water bass, mid-morning gills and red ears, always watching for whites or largemouth on top
Fall - Back to the green fish

Note: may work catfish back into the summer rotation this year. Haven’t really even tried the last two summers and channels will bite even when the weather is scorching.

Eating wise largemouth/smallmouth is a far sweeter meat than white bass/hybrid/striper. They are after all first cousins to crappie and gills.

Smallies no, largemouth yes. Fishing for largemouth kinda sucks, but fishing rivers for big spots and smallies is a blast.

For sheer fun White Bass beats ditch Pickles hands down!

A good day of Ditch Pickles can be 40 - 50 and a good day of Whites will be 300+ and that is by Noon.
