I been known to planer board from time to time. When going shallow you gotta keep a short line between your board and your rig so you cut down on snags. I also go with 1.5 oz instead of the usual 2oz slinky when shallow and this also helps minimize snags. My buddies can’t believe some of the areas I drag with seldom snags. I prefer to anchor shallow but I will pull my boards through there if If fish are scattered and I can’t find anything worth anchoring on.

I been making some drift weights from 1/4 " rope about 6" long . Pull the center core out fill the outer braid
with #8 shot melt the ends and your good to go. You can grag these things through all most any thing.
