from the "MLF is going to fail" crowd after the Eufaula and Lake Fork tournaments....the attached article by Sports Illustrated reports that 500,000 watched the last 6 days of Lake Fork tourney and their viewership is growing at a 14% rate...

Still think a lot of Anglers will leave when their 3 year commitment is up. They aren’t making what they expected to. Economy and cancelled tournaments should be a challenge for all tours especially in this Corona lasts a while.

The "turnaround" from the viewer, sponsors and the anglers themselves in the last 90 days has been nothing short of dramatic. The amount of negative posts on social and forum boards is almost non existent and three months ago it was nothing but drama. The numbers from Fork were incredible and the first two events were strong as well. It has really come down to a few things.

1. the two pound minimum change
2. the change of production focus and letting the moments play out and the anglers talk through them instead of bouncing from fish catch to fish catch.
3. Heavy hitters has provided an interesting twist and certainly has put the focus on big fish. This was really smart.
4. this years lake choices and timing have been much better and that's simply from them having a full year to negotiate locations and plan

I'm in no way saying that anglers won't leave but it won't be related to money or sponsorship loss. It will be they simply prefer the five fish format.

Regardless, this is just way more enjoyable that all the battles that were going on at the end of the year.

Last year was BASSs year by a long shot. They just simply kicked butt. This year they cant even get the season going. MLF seems to be having the luck this year.

what do you base that "they aren't making what they expected to" on?....they are not paying entry fees which automatically saves each angler $45,000. per year....their payouts are equal to or better than their elite series tourneys.....the biggest financial difference is that MLF has booked 850 hours of TV coverage which almost 20 times the coverage ever offered by BASS and huge factor for each fisherman when trying to obtain sponsorship...
I don't know the details of the agreement between MLF and the fishermen but I would bet there is some sort of profit sharing plan in place...

I know I watched more on bigger fish lakes and especially here local for Fork-Athens. If They go up north to a dink/fest like Maine I’m out. But I like all 3 and think more is better. Better for the fans.

I watched a lot of the fork tournaments. I’m still not a fan MLF, but I need to learn as much as I can on fork....

MLF, FLW, and BASS are all great. I'm glad to see more fishing now. Much better than watching he he he he and son son.

I am becoming a fan, the fork coverage was addictive.

I still prefer a stringer tournament to fish but I will watch the next BPT online.

Don't know about a lot but some will definitely go back to 5 bass fishing.

Give it a couple of weeks. I wouldn't say it's over just yet.

I love to watch great fisherman catch fish. The formats may be different, but I feel like I can in the long run I can learn something to help myself. I watch and enjoy them all. I choose no sides

I like all the fishing, MLF, FLW, BASS, amateurs, etc. Nothing negative to say about any organization. I'm guess I'm one of the only fishermen who enjoys the "dinkfest" tournaments. To me, it is bass fishing, because not all are big. But I like catching all size bass.
