This trip was and will be our most remembered trip with out my best friend Mike Reyenga. Mike's son Cody brought the ashes to be placed in the lake at our meeting place at the mouth of the river. This is the area called Three Sisters as you will see the Three Peaks in one of the pictures below. We dedicated this trip to Mike and it started out pretty rough as I believe he is still messing with me and having a good time looking down on us from the Big Lake above. I blew a front trailer tire on the Skeeter Trailer just as we got off I-10 at Benson, AZ. These tires have 15K miles. The second tire on the right back blows and destroys the trailer light in Mexico the next morning. While at the Boarder we had 3 hours of trouble getting Cody's truck papers and finally had to go without any papers. My papers have never been checked in 20 years sense they started issuing them. No problems doing that except for the late arrival at Lake Oviachic. Coming out the following week was a breeze and made it in record time of 6.5 hours back to the Boarder.

Now for the Report.
Fishing was slow to say the least. Bad weather again this trip really cut the number down. It was cloudy 5 days out of the 6 days of fishing. The last day was sunny and windy. I would rather have the clouds with no wind. We had a little rain on those 5 days also. Pat Haley and I averaged between 40 to 60 quality Bass each day. Because the Spawn was almost over all our fish were quality and consistently in the 4 to 6 lb. range. My Computer Tech. had developed a chip for the depth finders with every hump and island in the lake. We spent lots of time on these where the better fish were; but no numbers. We never hit the mother load and the clouds kept them from grouping up on the shaded ledges. I had the big fish again this trip with only a 5.9. Pat and I caught fish early on Spinner Baits; then later in the mornings on Short Crigs using Brush Hogs and Lizards in Watermelon Red. The technique was a Slow Roll letting the weight tick across the rocks keeping the bait moving very slowly. This allowed us to cover lots of ground and find a few fish grouped around the secondary points and islands inside the coves.

Cody Reyenge and Jaime Midkiff from Odessa kicked butt each day averaging from 60 to 100 Bass. They concentrated on the shallows from half way to the backs of all the coves around Three Sisters Mountain. They also found their best quality fish on slow days on chunk rock next to the river channel on the large steep islands. Their baits of choice ranged from: Spinner Baits - White Crank Baits - Flukes and Lizards.

If we concentrated on the really important stuff in life,

there'd be a shortage of fishing poles

50 to 60 4 to 6lb fish a day doesn’t sound slow haha. A day of that is probably more weight than my last several years combined.

I want to thank each of you guys for posting about the report. We make these trips each year in Jan., Feb., and March. Anyone is welcome to go and follow me. I am glad to help get your ready for the trip. My 3 boats with a captain will be open for two fisherman on each of these trips; if you would rather make a trip with me on your first experience. Our main expense is gas to make the trip. Our expense at the Lake was only $300 each for the Cabins and our evening meal for 7 nights. It doesn't get any better than this as compared to other lakes in Mexico that charge $250 PER Day for each fisherman. The total trip of 12 days is $3,000 for 3 fisherman. We all share this expense.

Please contact me if you would like to go next year:
