I'm in the process of creating a bank fishing wagon for transporting my equipment from the van to the shoreline in one trip.

Here is the wagon I'm starting with.

I'm going to add 2" X 12" PVC pipes across the back for my poles and I can pack the tackle box, Ice chest, Minnow bucket, folding chair, and what have you inside. It will double for a rod holder while fishing also. I wish I had thought of it but I actually got the idea the last time I went to the coast. I saw a guy walking down a jetty that packed everything in the wagon but a TV set. With the inflatable tires he came no where near sinking in the beach sand. The bed is 40" X 18" so it's large enough for all of my stuff. I priced them for $400 & up all set up. Mine will come in under $100 and will work just fine.

Any ideas to make it more versatile?

SB

Thanks Jimbo, I have one of those to do light yardwork-bring in groceries from the car. It is pretty good but the wheels are plastic and the tires are hard rubber. My new one has inflated tires that are taller and wider on steel wheels to help get it over obstacles and imperfections on the ground better. It's quite a bit stronger built and can hold up to 400 lbs (not that I'd be able to pull it with that much weight). It's kinda like comparing a standard pickup to a monster truck LOL! I'll post a pic once it's ready for fishing.

I travel pretty light when I bank fish and don't really need the heavy duty type wagon.
I would have a problem just unloading the empty wagon from the back of my truck and the folding one isn't a problem.
A medium size tackle box and small ice chest, rods and reels, and maybe a bucket with my bait, a folding chair, and odds and ends net etc.

Thanks for the idea. Will definitely try this while the ramps are closed.

Jimbo,

I understand and that's what is cool about fishing.... Everyone does things the way they want or can afford. It's like the guy with a kayak as compared to someone with a pontoon boat or one with a fully loaded bass boat. All three can be happy in their own little world. But in my case I'm rough on my toys and love to have the comfort of home with me while I sit and watch the fish not bite LOL!!! I have limited mobility and sometimes having to run back to the van for something I may have forgotten (specially if I have to park fairly far from where I'm actually fishing) could be problematic due to my limitations. And even though the wagon is somewhat heavier, the inflatable tires allow me to go places where hard wheels would sink as in sand or jam my arthritic joints when traveling over rocks and rough ground. That and with the rest of the setup I'm building, I'll have rod holders already set up as soon as I am ready to fish. No more looking for y shaped sticks or fighting with rocky soil while pushing rod holders into the ground.

As for loading and unloading, I have a small van with rod hangers on the ceiling and a light pair of aluminum ramps that I use to load my motorcycle or golf cart on my trailer. They make rolling the fully loaded wagon (minus the landing net and rods) into the back of the van a snap. I can be loaded for bear in less than 3 minutes and reload just as fast.

That's one of the reasons I love America.... Where two guys like you and I can have differing opinions about a subject and both be right.
