My how a week changes everything. Decided around noon yesterday to head out to Jones Brothers Park in Jonestown just northwest of Austin on Lake Travis where I live. Pulled up to the ramp and a local police and sheriff's car along with a line of orange cones had blocked the ramp. Dang...is the virus closing down the lake? Nope. Someone evidently let their truck roll off into the lake. Not a boat and trailer. Just a truck. How does that happen? Oh well. He's in the middle of the creek channel in about 25 foot of water. THAT'S a bad way to start your weekend for sure!
So onto the fishing. Last week had a pretty slow day on Travis. 4 hours and 3 fish. All dinks.
After being shut down at the Jonestown ramp, backed her up, pulled out, and went up the lake to another ramp in the Lago Vista area. What a difference a few warms days AND nights makes. 4 hours and around 25 fish. No bigs. Probably 3 pounds was the largest, and most between 1.5 - 2. Typical Lake Travis...and all fat and healthy looking. Started out with a senko and a jerk bait and caught a few on both. Although I marked lots of bait and some fish out in 25' near the main points I couldn't get em to eat. Back half of the creeks seemed to be better. Tried a spinnerbait, square bill, and jig, but not much action. Pulled out the watermelon/red baby brush hog and it was ON! By then it was around 2:30 and I had to be off the water by 4. Caught around 20 in a little over an hour and a half in two different creek channels No females at all, but it won't be long! No sight fishing and only saw one small male on a bed. It was a little windy in the area I was fishing so even with really clear water it was hard to spot them. But a nice long cast and one or two small pulls and BAM! Good day to be out on the water and enjoy a great day of fishing! Good luck boys!

Well I stand corrected. There were a few females. I don't eat much fish and rarely keep any bass, but my wife loves fresh fish and asked me to bring a few home for her. Brought back 5 that were just barely over the legal size. 2 of them had eggs. I wouldn't have guessed it. They didn't have really big bellies even for small fish. Dang it...don't like doing that!
