Not familiar with the area but when I learned to do this I would look on google maps for convenient ponds near me, go to the street view to make sure I could park near it, then take 1-2 rods and just fish. Spring is the easiest time to learn whats in the ponds so get on it over the next 30 days. My 4 early lures I learned with - weightless tx rig stickbait (i used the bass pro brand), small weedless swimbait on underspin (bluegill color like green pumpkin, houdini, green pumpkin blue flake, etc), shaky head with finess worm or creature like brush hog or a beaver (craw style with claws that do not kick), wardens original rooster tail (#1 pond bait ever, 1/4 oz is the exact size and movement of a minnow or small bluegill, I use chartreuse or white/grey).

Do NOT under estimate very small ponds. One of my early on high producing ponds was about 20 yards x 30 yards in size but I could go most any day of the year and catch 5+ fish in an hour or two.

Eric

Go to the water at beltline and royal lane sometime and see if you can get a bass out of it. I have tried a few times and failed. It is right across from my work at 3232 royal lane
