2/11/20 Decker Lake (Walter E Long Lake)
2 people 21 fish (4 limits of hybrids 1 short)

‘Whack em’ Wednesday’

This morning Erik met me at the ramp at 5am.
Erik and I used to teach people to skydive together what seems like an eternity ago!(10yrs since I let all my instructor ratings lapse and haven’t made a jump since June 2019)
Erik was not a very good skydiver so he spent most of his time with a death grip on students to help him fall stable!
I hoped he would be a better fisherman than he was a skydiver😜😜

We drove around the lake from 5 to 7am struggling to fill the bait tank. Put 40-50 in the tank and started fishing.

First stop 27’ - lots of lookers, but not any biters. We made a short hop with the trolling motor while dragging baits and I landed the first fish. 22”

2nd stop 36’. We stayed here a while. Erik landed keepers 2,3,&4 quick like and then started talking smack! I then put 4 more keepers in the boat in about 20 minutes and the smack talking stopped😃
This continued for a good while. At 10:45 we had boated and released 15 keepers - all between 4.75lbs and 6.75lbs.
We left this area at 11:15 with 18 awesome keepers boated - the goal was 20 fish (4 limits by noon)

Next stop was 53’ with fish chasing shad - I dropped a bait directly in front of one and boated number 19. Not longer after I caught our only short of the day (14” hybrid)

At 11:58 Erik ended the day by boating and releasing keeper #20!

Today was not an awesome day, but it was a really good day of quality fish! Bite is still soft and should increase dramatically very soon.

Water temp 62
No shad spawn seen.
Fishing picked up once the fog cleared.

Richland Chambers bound tomorrow - I still have availability for next week.
