Hey everyone, I recently relocated to Katy, TX and I am not an avid fisherman and haven't fished for some time. However, my son wants to fish (and I promised him this weekend so I need help) but I don't want to take him to just the local park "lake." I'd like to give him a good experience where we can fish from the bank and have a chance to catch decent fish. Any suggestions on where we can go? I'm willing to drive up to about an hour/hour and half if it is worth it. I appreciate your guidance in advance.

The Brazos River is just to your West, some good fish in there!

I'm in Katy as well. I'd try GoForth Park on West Rd and Barker Cypress. Mary Jo Peckum Park only has small fish, same with the new John Paul Landing ponds. JP Landing you'll be able to catch some small ones, mainly catfish. Any neighborhoods with ponds, that allow fishing will be good as well.

Thanks! We ended up heading to Brazos Bend State Park in Needville. It was a fun day, lots of blue gill and crappie. The boy had a lot of fun.
