3-16 much harder fishing as the water has cooled off somewhat requiring a little deeper depth

Man I was tearing the blue cat up last weekend at RC in a cove full of shad fishing for crappie they kept dunking my minnows! Lol but I donโt mind! But I wanted to ask when fishing shallow with shad do you cut it up and let it sit at the bottom or under a bobber? Thanks
