If you wanted to maximize your odds of catching fish what species do you target when? For example, the sandbass run in march. Are there any other times of year where bank fishing is this good?

In Texas you can fish from the bank year around with a good chance of catching fish. The winter is probably the slowest time, but you can still catch easily catch carp, buffalo, and catfish in the winter. Winter is the Texas trout stocking season and trout are available throughout the state. You can also winter bank fish for striper, hybrid striper, and largemouth bass is you can find a place to reach deep water. I think June is probably the best month. Everything is in reach of bank anglers in the summer months. Catfish, bass, sunfish, and carp are all available. Saltwater fishing, both inshore and offshore, is available year around. Some bodies of water are better for one species of fish than another, so don't get hung-up on one species. I have fished throughout the country and I believe Texas has a more diverse fishery than any other state.

Crappie in the creeks from November to early May. Crappie spawn from late feb through June (some lakes)

Sandbass in the creeks from feb trough late April. Sandbass on windblown banks for the Shad spawn in late April and early May. That’s really about it for them

I was definitely hung up on largemouth last year. I am planning on broadening my fishing horizons. I'd say one of the most fun things about fishing is catching, so why not just fish for what is biting.
