It had been years since I have skinned a catfish but I went to talk to stubby and he mentioned that he cleans fish that way for his home sometimes. My grandad did not allow filleting because that was wasting fish! Do I tried a couple and using my nonexistent memory I remembered that pawpaw used a regular pair of pliers. So I got out my toolbox and yes they work better than skinners from eco mart. Just a made up store name because I don’t try to bash anyone. So now I have decided I am going to start skimming a few catfish. Now this last year I bought some live catfish st a Asian market because I did not thaw fish I had in the freezer and my creole seasoning was getting lonely. At the Asian market skinning a catfish is not an option but they would chop the fish in nice sections and put them in a bag. I did that and also had them go a carp. I know this will irk someone but carp is one of the best tasting fish you can get. Anyone else eat carp? Maybe I am a real redneck with some cajun mix. I say that out of respect for the Cajuns I know and they will eat almost anything. Now I don’t clean turtles and snakes but some do and if your hungry I guess that is much better than doing without. No bbq armadillo at my house either!

I have always done it the easy way. Filleting. Side Note: That's just me.

I am not sure filleting is the easy way but I lose my wife when the fish are not bone free.

Been filleting for a lot of years but we use to skin everything. I still skin a few once in a while because I enjoy the taste of whole catfish.

Nail the head to a tree...cut around the head and use pliers to pull the skin down.

Nail the head to a tree...cut around the head and use pliers to pull the skin down. Did that for a long time.

After you drive that nail thru it's head, step back so it won't slap you in the face. Never felt bad at all, it was food.

I make a cut down the back and one down the stomach to get the skin off more one side at a time. When it wants to peel around, things can get tricky and these guide cuts stop the peel around.
