First off I want to say hello as this is my first post in this forum. A little about me, I was raised in Killeen and had fished this area from the 60's through the 70's as a kid. Fast forward to now I'm retired from 30 years of Government service (military & civilian) and have much more time on my hands. I know Belton, Stillhouse, Nolan Creek, and Lemons Camp pretty well from memory. But it's been a long time since I held a rod in any of these waters. Well I'm getting back into fishing and it seems much has changed since I last wet a line around here. I would like to know where would be some of the best places to bank fish for eating size catfish now days. I'm in Copperas Cove and would like to keep driving time down to no more than an hour or so. Can anyone please give me some ideas for someone with limited mobility?
Well, I’m more than an hour from you, but feel free to have a go at the catfish in my pond. We have plenty, and we have beer. As for bait, we do well with chunks of hot dog weenie and Earl Campbell smoked jalapeño and cheese sausage. Personally, I won’t eat that nasty sausage, but the catfish seem to like it.

We are near Groesbeck.
Generous offer there 603Country! And welcome to the forum SteveBob!
Thank you for your more than generous offer 603Country and I agree Jimbo. I do appreciate it very much, but I have some service connected disabilities that make it difficult/painful for me to drive any more than 30 minutes to an hour and then back again in one day. I was just hoping to find a few spots to wet a line near to me. I'm retired and suffering major cabin fever and I need some sun and fresh air. It's been about 5 years since I have fished at all and nearly 45 years since I fished in the Killeen area. I was told one can't go west on Cowhouse Creek by road anymore on Fort hood (my favorite spot as a kid) and I don't have a boat. I used to fish Pilar Point there as a kid in the 70's and caught my first 6+ lb Largemouth there. I'm more in to catfishing now as anything else is too much busy work LOL!!!
Thanks again.... Maybe if I'm having a few pain free days in a row I might drop you a line. That sure sounds tempting.
P.S. I have been digging out my old poles, changing line, Cleaning - lubing the reels, & replacing dry rotted or rusty items in the tackle box.... Boy I wish I would not have waited so long.
You are very correct and to any I may have irritated (or worse)……. Please accept my sincere apologies. I wont bore anyone with excuses since I know I was wrong.
But if I may..... I would like to start over.
Hello everyone!!!! Anyone fish Belton, Stillhouse, or any other local areas? SB
Well, if you can’t make it to my place, consider bank fishing at the state parks and COE parks. Most have fishing piers, and a couple of them have cabins for overnight stay, and some of those parks have air conditioned cabins. We take our travel trailer to a lot of them. If you have an iPad or similar, get an app for the parks, and they’ll have info on fishing at those places. All parks have restroom facilities.
