On a cool, sunny day I was walking through wetlands in central Florida. I stopped to watch a blue heron, standing completely still, fishing. Farther down the raised wooden walkway, I spotted a white heron, which was also fishing in the pond. Though the blue heron had watched and waited patiently for the fish to come closer, the white heron walked along looking for fish as he moved. These two herons used very different methods, but they both seemed to catch fish.

I’m not a particularly patient person, more the white heron than the blue, I guess. While patience doesn’t always come easily to me, patience is a key to listening — both to others and to God. Most mornings, I set aside time to listen patiently to God before the concerns of the day hit. The great blue heron reminds me that patience and stillness are good ways to “fish” for what God wants me to hear today. But the successful fishing of the white heron also encourages me to look around and actively seek God’s wisdom.

In my younger years I was more like the white heron, but as I have aged I have moved to the style of the blue heron. Enjoying the serenity of God’s beauty out on the water. Whether I am in the boat or sitting on the bank. It’s great to catch a load of fish, but I have made the purpose to enjoy the moment. If I come away empty then I get on the TTF and try to learn from all of you and get better. So thanks to all of you for sharing your wisdom.

I saw a blue heron pick a 2lb bass off a nest at Grapevine last spring and swallow that sucker in one gulp.

He then went to the bank and sat there, contented, and did not move much for several hours.

Its a shame because that may have been the only bass in the Vine.

The white crane is the spinner bait, crank bait, swim bait fisherman, the blue herring is the weightless fluke fisherman, they both can be productive at certain times.

All I know is that after going fishing for the third time and not getting a bite, I looked to the sky for guidance and asked, "Lord, why can't I catch any fish?"
A big voice came down from the sky and said, "There's just something about you that hacks me off."

I love to bank fish! I fish on some of the most beautiful out of the way places in Texas!

As I get older I fish more to get out and away from everything catching fish is just a bonus. Now if one of my buddies starts talking smack It’s game time and I’ll have the last laugh ( sometimes )

Here lately I catch most of my fish on a plate @ Sidekicks in Emory

This last week I fished like an eagle. Sight fishing them big bass on Toledo Bend.

I power fish, I like to keep moving and fishing fast with my bait in the water at all times.

Yup. Love spending the early morning with God and nature sitting on Sandlin's banks this time of year .

Then the first sandie tries to rip the reel from my hands .
