I don't know if this is the right location for me to post this so the moderators can move it if necessary. But I feel like I need to let everyone know, to make sure I am the last person this happens to.

This isn't me looking for sympathy either, I just need to make others aware of this situation.

I was going to buy a new to me boat on Saturday morning. It was a 2002 Skeeter zx 225 in a beautiful maroon color and it was the boat I'd been searching for a while for, not that that is important to the story but I'm gonna say it anyway. I was very excited and left work at 5:30 pm and headed to the bank to get cash out for the boat. I did this because it was a three hour drive to go and meet the guy and I wanted to do the deal there. I walked into the bank and asked the teller to get cash out for me, she was very nice and helped me get the money. Upon leaving the bank I had two envelopes with the cash, and I put them in the center console of my truck. I drove home, and parked the truck outside of my apartment. (I live in a very densely populated apartment complex/shopping center). I locked the truck and went to walk my dog not thinking twice about it. I came back to my truck less than thirty minutes later to find my back window smashed and the cash gone. Nothing else was touched in the truck. I had a laptop and electronics in the back seat that they didn't take. They knew exactly where the cash was.

The cops were called and a report was made on Friday night, I have done everything I can do at this point, but if someone has an idea of anything else I can do I am all ears.

There is only one explanation, I was a victim of Bank Jugging. That is the official term for it, there are some nasty videos online if you care to do some research. To offer a short explanation of what happens, is these people will sit outside a bank and just watch. They saw me carrying the two envelopes and watched me put them in my console. They then followed me home and took my money.

I again am not looking for sympathy or pats on the back saying its okay. Because it just is not, it sucks.

Please don't get cash out from a bank to buy a boat. Get a cashiers check, wire transfer, literally anything but cash.

Learn from my mistake.

TL:DR Don't get cash from the bank to buy a boat, get anything but cash.

It is also possible it was just a random break it. Upon entering the truck the first thing they would do is open the console to check it for a gun or cash. Not take a lap top out of back then come back and check console. And after seeing the envelopes and the cash got REALLY excited and hauled but. Not worrying about a lap top or electronics they’d have to sell to a crack head for $10, or get next to nothing for at a pawn shop. The bank thing does happen. But in your case I thing it was just a coincidence. I mean think about it. They didn’t know how much cash you had. They didn’t know how far they would have to follow you and waist their gas, and then HOPE u just happened to leave it in your truck and not take it inside like 99% of people would do. Or drive straight to a store or individual to make a purchase. Not likely. They just got lucky.

Sorry for your misfortune. Years ago my dad had a retail business for 35 years. Every night after closing he would have all the days cash flow in a blue bank bag and bring it home for the night. He would just slip the bag in his back pocket and then pitch it under the bed. One morning he didn't find the bag under the bed. Hysterical, he went ahead and headed out to the front door to his truck to go to work and there was the bag in the gutter in front of our house with about 10 grand in it.

A wire transaction might work but many people won't accept cashier checks because they can be faked. I've been burned by a cashiers check in the past. It took the bank about a week to find out that it was a fraud and they were the bank that it was written from. Best is to meet the seller at the bank. Let him take the money how he wants it and then you take the boat.

if the cashiers check is verified by the bank it was drawn on there shouldn't be a problem.

I tell my wife and kids.. Be aware of you surroundings. Since they did not steal anything else then you were targeted more than likely. Sorry to hear that..Oh once I get cash out it never leaves my site for a big purchase.

Sounds like to me the teller called the people that took your money. If I’m a.criminal I’m not about to wait all day waiting to catch someone put something in their console worth breaking into. Not to mention the bank should have cameras outside that should’ve caught the person that followed you home. Or it could be the person that was going to sell you the boat. With just your phone number he could’ve found you and followed you. You have to look at it in all directions. My brother in law got scammed pretty good out of a 50k camero. Luckily they found it in great condition.

Taking cash to look at a used boat is the best way to do it IMO. You get there with a cashiers check and have no room to negotiate if the boat isn’t as expected. This is especially true if the boat is quite a ways from home. Hate this happened to you, hopefully karma will take care of the people who did it!

Unless you personally know Wiseman and are joking, there is no reason to pour salt in his wound. I had something (not cash) stolen out of my truck a few years ago; at a car dealership! It was an inexpensive but personal item. I did everything I could to get it back but I didn't have any luck.

It seems to me that someone was watching you. Sorry for your loss.

While i agree, anyone over 50 isnt so keen on wire transfers, despite the fact I can stand there and have it done and see the transaction in minutes, they cant so they just dont like it...

I believe this guy was preyed upon by a bank employee, not necessarily someone sitting and watching, I mean come on you cant see in the car and see what he does with the envelopes.
'

Also I agree, if you believe they sat there then try and get the police to look at the cameras, if it were a movie they would investigate the employees and check their phone record and it would all match up to a call to the thief .....

Ufortunately i know first hand its hard to get police service my gramma who I am power of attorney for was preyed upon in two old folks home just like you read about... a lawyer contacted me and was going to do me the favor of handling her affairs bla bla bla,
