Any one use hair jigs? if so lets hear about your setup for different conditions. Brand? Color? Weight? Line? Rod? etc...

7' MH moderate fast bait caster. Nothing fancy, it's a Falcon HD This is a saltwater/freshwater rod with more of a parabolic action than most freshwater bass rods--perfect for hair jigs and spoons fishing more vertically than horizontally. Tend to use 1/2oz to 3/4oz hair jigs. The cheap wahoo bucktail hair jigs work great. Have some Gambler also White; white and chartreuse, white and red Line--40lb braid mainline to six foot 15lb Pline CXX leader

I have fished and made hair jigs for many years. The most important thing is to use as light a weight as you can use and still stay in contact with the bait. I prefer #11 pork frogs for trailers (until I run out). My main sizes are 3/16 and 1/4 ounce baits. I can and do fish these in water up to 25 feet deep with no problems. Heavier weights are not required. As for the body of the jig, anything except arctic fox tail is a mistake. Nothing else has the buoyancy and action. Bucktail is too stiff and marabou isn't stiff enough. Colors vary with the seasons and the color of the current crawfish crop. Anything from black, purple, brown, and even red can produce at times. I fish these on a 6' med/hvy spinning rod with x-fast action and 8# mono.
