Hi guys - The short story is I have two young kiddos, a three-year-old and a three-month-old, so it's been awhile since I've been able to get out and wet a hook (I can't wait until I can bring both girls with me!) The wife knows I miss it and has suggested I take the kayak out this weekend to try to catch some crappie.
I'm wondering two things: first, any suggestions on spots I can creek fish around Fort Worth? Not looking for any secrets, just a starting point. Second, from a timing perspective, do you think I'd be better playing my fishing card this weekend or next once the water has warmed a bit?
Feeling out of practice... C

Personally, I would wait if you want crappie, but that’s just me.

Here in the north I'm catching panfish in 45 - 50 degree water. When I used to ice fish, we'd catch over 50 crappies between the two of us in one area and the water temp was close to 32 degrees. Don't let water temp stop you. Find them - catch them. Personally I'd start with light ball head jigs and small soft plastic grubs (crappie magnet, beetle spin etc.); jig weight 1/64, 1/32 and 1/16 oz.

If the fishing card is ever presented, take it! You never know when it will be revoked.

Play it now, and THEN start working on the next one. That'd be like keeping a ACE up your sleeve. Of course if the boss has 4 of a kind Wayne
Luck will beat skill any time you have enough of it!

Man if you want bang for the buck, let me know. I often have an empty seat. I love kayak fishing, but if time is limited a big boat makes life easier. Let me know.
