I will be driving over to Lake Lavon in April to fish. I have never even seen Lavon. I see that there is some timber in the lake so I was wondering if there is a map that shows where it is safe to run and where it is not? Are there boatlanes to run? Thanks

There are no maps and/or marked boat lanes on Lavon. If you stay on the south end of the lake, it is open. I would suggest fishing the rip rap on the dam and rip rap on the RR tracks on the south end of the lake. There is also a cut in-between the two main arms of the lake that I've done well in the spring. There are also a couple of marinas (Collin Park and East Fork) that will hold fish that time of year.

Hopefully someone that fishes the lake more will answer you.

By April, the crappie will likely be moving onto the submerged timber. Most of it is in the North End of the lake, but there are scattered ones all over the place. Look at a lake map on Google and find Ticky Creek Boat Ramp It is on the East Fork of the lake on the West side. Just to the East of that boat ramp is lots of timber, some submerged, some stick ups. We do pretty well in that area and with lake full like it is now water will be around 20-25' maybe more is some spots

The Rip-Rap up by the dam will probably be good by then. I went up there yesterday with my SI and there were no fish visible in that area, but they are scattered right now because of the impending spawn.

If the wind is blowing and you have a smaller boat, you can go into the Mallard Park cove and get out of the wind most of the time and fish the rip-rap at the railroad trestle and timber in that cove. There is also a ramp there if that is where you want to fish. Water will be a little warmer there because it is shallower. You will likely have lots of company in that area in April.

Especially if you are up in the timber in the North End of the lake, go SLOW. There is lots of underwater gremlins that can take your lower end off.

We usually use the Lavonia Ramp because it is nice and has a floating dock. It's also only about 400 yards from the ramp to the rip-rap by the dam. However, it is a LONG way from there to the Ticky Creek area.

Good luck. Hope you do well. There are tons of crappie in Lavon.
