I've not fished a BC derby (tournament) in a few years and my memory is faded.

I was told that each team draws a number from a pot to determine takeoff order and flight number.. .
Help settle this argument !

yes, that is correct, you draw number to determine you take off in order and then you return time. It also helps them locate you faster in the computer when you weigh your fish. Register in person or check-in the night before or the morning before.

So how do they determine how many numbers to put in the draw ?

I think they start with a little more than they think they need then add if it looks like itโ€™s going to go over. I know we have frequently drawn a number higher than the number of teams. Makes for a long morning at take off waiting to leave.

Thanks--thats what I was wondering about. How much confusion it may cause in the worst case scenario.
Lets say if you start with 250 numbers and drew 200 boats that would make for 50 blank spots, We all know that invariably someone who is like # 10 is still going to be at the courtesy dock when his number is called. Then you start skipping numbers it just gets worse for those who aren't paying attention.. Like said above, I've not fished one in a while and had forgotten how they went out. I do know they run a great tournament.

If they have X numbers left in the hat all they have to do is list them and bypass them in the morning.
Its been so long since I've fished one I don't remember for sure but I think they knew what numbers had been picked.

If a number isnt drawn it isnt called just skips to the next. Champs runs their stuff like a well oiled machine, just show up and follow instructions and you wont have any problem. They are as good as it gets sending out big groups in an orderly manner.

Yep!

It's easy because they call the number and the team's names.

Yep. And it works great, as long as everyone is paying attention and can drive a boat. Lol

Also just an FYI that in the past depending on weather issues they have allowed trailering at some tournaments.
