anyone using Quicksilver Premium Plus with their ProXS? I have been using The OptiMax DFI oil you get at a dealer but sometimes it's hard to get to a dealer.

I run DFI oil in mine. We have a dealership that sells in bulk for 28 a gallon.

DFI is all I use, I'm sure using premium plus isn't the end of the world. When you're at Fork go by J&J and get DFI oil for $28 a gal.

To add on to the question, I also run DFI in my '08 225 Pro XS. Been running it since new.

Would it be safe to switch to Premium Plus? That DFI oil gets expensive!!

My whole thing is I have the "if ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality

So I wanted to switch I'd have to drain the DFI?

According to Don Weed Premium Plus is OK to use but DFI is best, I use DFI.

No you can mix them in the oil reservoir, what you don't want to do is pre-mix the DFI in gasoline it will settle to the bottom of the gas tank, pre-mixing with premium plus is A-OK though.

Starting in 2010, all ProXS should use the DFI oil. Premium Plus is “ok” to use but the DFI oil is the manufacturer’s recommendation.

All the details you want can be found here:

PS: Mercury Optimax/DFI oil, and Quicksilver Optimax/DFI oil are the SAME PRODUCT (should even be the same part number.... with a "K" for Mercury, or a "Q" for Quicksilver).

As long as it is Tcw-3 qualifies you are ok. I run different ones in mine and have been since 2008, mainly pennzoil. Mercury doesn’t own a refinery, the oil comes from the same place. If your going to run an expensive oil I would chose Lucas or Ams-oil.

It’s amazing to me that guys will invest tens of thousands of dollars in a boat and motor and then cut a corner to save a few dollars on something like oil. Why? It’s penny wise and pound foolish.

The people that made your motor are explicitly telling you what they recommend and what they think is best for your motor. Seems like you’d simply do what they say.

But I also know a lot of folks who will go to a doctor (who went to school and trained his whole life in order to best help you) and then the person says the doctor doesn’t know what they are doing and they know better.

Ok.

Let me expand while you climb down from your high horse. I was simply asking from a standpoint of getting in a pinch and running out of DFI oil. I ran low the other day and had an alarm go off on my motor for low oil and it got me to thinking what if that happened and I needed to go to Wal-Mart to get oil on a Saturday at 4pm when all dealers are closed. Calm down.
