Hi Texas folks. I'm heading down to Fork Thursday with my son. Looking to find a few big ones if possible. I saw that Bass Champs were there Saturday and no one appeared to weigh in an over.
I'm hoping the warming weather will help fire some bigger fish. I'd really like to get my son on a giant. Any suggestions where to start or what to throw would be greatly appreciated.
I haven't been there since 2007 so I don't have a clue what to do.

Main lake points with big fish baits, big jigs, swim baits etc. Work your way into coves from there. big girls still out deep probably

back of birch, back of little caney, far north end on either side or glade on east side would be good starting points. 2 weeks ago west side on north end was only 47*, dropped about 10* due to late cold fronts. should be warming back up some this week.

I'm not sure if the Garmin maps have the boat lanes or not? I can do some checking. Thank you for the starting place. I'm assuming it will be mostly male bass shallow but I would suspect the females will be close soon.

600 of the best anglers in Texas didn’t get an over on Saturday. It’ll warm up some but the cold night and rain will keep them finicky. Good luck.

Thank you, we were planning on throwing some big jigs with big trailers. You think the water is clear enough for swimbaits? We used to kill the big ones on the Castaic shad....

I don't think he was being sarcastic at all. I think he offered you a valid option to getting your son on a big fish. Although, if I was going to be here for multiple days, I'd carry my boat and fish put of it the rest of the time.

I don't have anything against guides. I have had some good experiences and some bad ones. However, I will be taking my own boat and hopefully sacking up a few big ones. I will be on the lake for 3 days. The slot is pretty big and catching slot fish isn't terrible.
I've seen what the lake is capable of producing. We used to drive to Falcon for a chance at a big one or two. Now we drive to Michigan to do battle with a few. This trip is much closer and hopefully we can find a few of the green variety....

No shame in hiring a guide especially if you are making a special trip.

Make sure you have boat lanes or else you will be very limited on where you can run if you solely go off the buoys out there. Think it’s $30 or so boatlanes.com

No he is not being sarcastic. The lake is way different than it was 13 years ago. Hiring a guide is your best chances of getting your son on a big fish unless you are a super angler and can get him on one. Sounds to me like you are just arrogant or cheap and don't want to hire a guide. You can explain to your son why you couldn't put him on a giant after your trip.

Good luck. I had one bite all day Saturday and fish the lake regularly for over twenty years. Tough as I have seen it.

Yeah if I was driving that far and had a few days to fish, I'd fish with a guide the first day and then take my boat the rest of the trip.
