I have a new to me boat and would like to fish Fork 2-3 times a year. There is a chip out called lake fork guide that was made when the lake was low and was wondering if it would be helpful. Is it better I just learn thru trial?

Sorry I have not heard of this Chip. I have heard that there are a couple of chips that give you the boat lanes that guides have made during low water times. This would be very beneficial in running the lake.

I build a GPS Contour Chip for Fork that has the best 20 areas that I can find on the lake. You may go here to take a look at the first two short videos. I also have a video for the 3 most popular Depth Finders on the page.

Based on your description, I assume you are looking for running the lake vs. looking for places to fish. If I am right, buy the Lance Vick Boatlanes Chip!

I guess I'm more worried about damaging my boat trying to get to the spots.

Two different things. Lance Vick makes a boat lane chip that is worth the money. Another "guide" makes a chip with other guide waypoints. Not worth the money

get the lance vick card for your brand of graph, only one worth the money imo.

had it for over 7 yrs. and it has paid for itself many times over.

it installs an overlay line on your maps, use it at the 200' setting for best accuracy/driveability.

buy at lake fork marina as well as others.

Another product that may help you if you have a Humminbird unit is a Lakemaster Chart Select map.
You can purchase a map for Lake Fork only and include 5 different years of satellite overlay which would have different lake levels to compare.
You can use that with the GPS data from the Lance Vick's product.

If you are clueless about patterns, you can include the SmartStrike software that predicts fish location based on the parameters you choose.

I'm brand new to fishing Fork and brand new to boats all around and I got the Boat Lanes by Lance Vick and it's super simple to use and extremely handy for a guy like my self with 0 experience in navigation or fish finders all together. Has the main lanes and little cuts into coves and areas you otherwise would be flying blind into once off the main lanes.

when you turn off a marked lane you better be at idle 99% of the time. there are huge stumps just off the lane all over that lake. back of little caney has about a 4' across that comes up real close to the lane when water is down.

So far I've been creeping around once off the marked lanes just because of how little being off my gps could cause big problems. Thanks for the advice though! I head into those extra marked lanes no more than 5mph according to my Gps.
