Might be selling my boat today, do I need to keep the licence plate off the trailer or leave it on? Thanks for your help.

Leave it on and give buyer the registration papers.

Take it off. Many cash buyers fail to pay the sales tax and change registration.

I would not sell any registered boat or vehicle on Saturday. I always do the sale at the court house so the buyer has to transfer the title immediately. If a buyer is not willing to do that, look for another buyer.

You can go online and do a name and address change on the plate. That way the plate will be in the new owners name before they drive off.

Agree, unless you know this person very well.

I just sold my boat and they told me at the registration office to take it off before selling! There is also a Texas Motor Vehicle Transfer Notification form you can fill out and send to Austin. It protects yourself from liability of criminal or civil acts involving the person taking ownership!

This is the correct way to go about it.
