Seen on the FLW that a Texas team won because another team had a rule infraction . Anybody hear what that rule infraction was ?

McKendree violation explained

As the weigh-in concluded, it originally appeared that the McKendree University team of Nathan Doty and Jacob Louis were the winners. It was later determined, however, that the pair had inadvertently violated Rule No. 12, which states in part that all fish must be caught in a conventional sporting manner, and their day three catch was disqualified.

The team broke off a bass and approximately an hour later snagged a line. They pulled in the line, which had a bass they believed to be the one they had broken off, hooked to a lure they believe to be their original lure. There is no way, however, to know if the fish on the line was the original fish that broke off, nor was the fish hooked with a rod and reel in a conventional sporting manner when it was brought into the boat. Thus, their catch was disqualified. McKendree University finished in 8th place with a three-day total of 10 bass weighing 42-12.

I would have weighed the fish if I thought it was the one that broke me off earlier . That sounds crazy !!!

Many years ago I was fishing with a friend on Lake Conroe. He hooked a big fish, it jumped a couple of times and broke his line. Sometime later we came back by the area and he saw a line on the surface and it was twitching. He grabbed the line and pulled in a five or six-pound fish with his lure still in its mouth. In 45 years of fishing, that is the only time I have seen that happen.

Those guys should have called the tournament director for a decision. Pretty sure the answer would have been no. Mabe a different director decision if the line broke and was grabbed pretty much immediately.

I just commented on the other thread the same thing, I've actually done it before. Broke off throwing a frog in thick pads in my reel. Came back 5 hours later and hung the line somehow. Pulled up the 50ft of 65lb braid and there was my 4lber...

With so much on the line, I sure wish they would have called in to clarify. What a deal. I’d be sick.

Seemed pretty cut and dry to me.

IMHO this was poor judgement on the tournament officials...this really is no different than a fish coming unhooked beside the boat but falling into the net....if there was any doubt the guys were not being truthful about finding their line, bringing in the fish and it being same lure, they could have given them a polygraph test...
this has happened to most of us if you have fished very tournaments and 90% of the time you never recover the fish but sometimes you get lucky and are able to grab the line and pull your fish in....
hate it for the guys who lost on the poor judgement of the tournament officials and for the guys who won a tainted victory...

I guess a call to the tournament director at the time they put the fish in the boat would have been the correct thing to do .
Did anybody hear with out that fish what there bag of fish would have weighed?
And would they have won without weighing that fish . ?

Luck plays a big part in bass fishing as well as skill.
In this case they were lucky finding the line attached to the fish, but unlucky because it wasn't accepted as a legal catch.
No reason for them to feel cheated in this case.

Just one more cast!

are they saying if your line breaks, you can't handline the fish in?....does immediately grabbing your line and bringing the fish in make it more sporting than waiting an hour to find the line and then handlining the fish in?would it have been acceptable if you retied the line then reeled the fish in? how about those instances where a fish jumps beside the boat but your partner sticks the net under him and the fish falls in the net?
those two boys need to appeal that decision and FLW needs to get some tournament officials with better judgement...
